I believe in perfect vacations.
Perfect vacations include going some place enjoyable with fun activties. I mean the type of vacation where nothing would be changed even if something went wrong. It’s the kind of trip that is priceless even if it costs three months savings. I had this type of vacation this past Labor Day and it was well needed.
I went on this trip with a group of friends that were new to me. My boyfriend, Joel, introduced me to them, which was good because I had just moved to the city and didn’t know anyone. We went to Charleston, SC. I love where we stayed on the Isle of Palms It is a small, quaint island that had little shops near the beach and lots of places to sit and watch the sunset while eating dinner or just having a drink. The hotel we stayed at was three doors down from the bar where our favorite band was playing. We spent days at the beach and nights at the bar listening to Will Hoge play his blues and rock & roll music. There was nothing that made me happier than that vacation.
On this trip I had nothing to worry about. There were no work schedules or curfews. It was whatever we wanted, when we wanted. We sat outside watching the tide rise and fall and relax to the refreshing sound of the waves crashing against the shore. Joel and I took a little “us” time and went browsing through the shops outside the hotel. We looked at toys and t-shirts, laughed at all the funny sayings, and played with the hermit crabs that made homes in mini football helmets. Visiting historic downtown Charleston was so cool. The elaborate old houses and the market were like nothing I had seen before. The nights were the best though. Will Hoge was the highlight of the entire trip. His music is mesmerizing. It’s so inspiring to watch someone who has reached his dream. I got to meet him for the first time and to no surprise he was just as down to earth and cool as his music is. As we rode home, we reminisced about the funny things that happened and how the trip could be said to be a success. It was fun and relaxing.
That vacation was probably the best one I’ve ever had. It was filled with all my favorite things. I shopped, played on the beach and in the ocean, saw amazing houses that I could only wish to someday own, and saw an icon play my favorite songs live. Now whenever I have a bad day I stop to remember the sunset or the first ring of the guitar and realize life isn’t always bad. I take a breath and keep going. I believe everyone should have that experience. Everyone should have that one vacation filled with their favorite things that can change their mood just by thinking about it.
